On Sunday, September 7, we bid a fond farewell to Christ's College and Cambridge, dragged our luggage to the train station and had a smooth and fast ride back to Kings Cross station in London. God, I love these trains.
We decided to take a cab from the station to save ourselves some hassle, and went to the cab line where me found a taxi big enough for all five of us plus luggage. The cabbie was an older gent with a cockney accent as rich as Eliza Doolittle's old Dad. He is an author and in the back of the taxi was a list of his literary productions which include eight books of his reminiscences of life as a child during the Blitz and various London taxi topics. Quite a colorful character and at his age, still willing and able to sling baggage around in his cab as needed.
Arriving at our posh lodgings, we figured out how to use the combination lock to access the keys, and entered our English fairyland of kitchen, study/library, and a luxurious living room stocked with expensive Victorian editions of Dickens, Byron, and others. There is also WiFi and several flat-screen TVs. Oh yes, and three bedrooms and three baths.
We went to the local grocer and stocked up on food, then headed to Westminster Abbey for an organ concert.
Before the concert we admired Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, etc in the low evening light. Then we had a refreshing walk in St James Park. Sadly, I did not bring my camera.
After a LONG bus ride (?) home, we had dinner and then went to bed.
