I have often been struck by how many otherwise culturally aware people are, for some reason, put off by "classical" music, also known as music performed by a symphony orchestra. I know people who appreciate good literature and theater (Shakespeare comes to mind), and the great masters of painting, sculpture, and architecture. Yet an appreciation of the greatest music ever conceived seems to escape them.
I know, I know. Some people say they just can't relate. The concert hall strikes them as pompous, the music is complex, they don't understand why you shouldn't applaud between movements, etc.
However, I wonder. Do such people really give themselves a chance?
So here is an opportunity. Reserve 10 minutes, put on a good pair of headphones, and open your mind. Then give this a listen. Share the inner thoughts of a genius.
I empathize with your love of this, but do not share it. In fact quite frankly I find much of it depressing, especially the beginning. You can't dance to it, it isn't good dinner music, not really suitable for singing loudly in the car on a sunny day (You might, but I wouldn't!) Just too grandiose for my taste and I could not spend 10 minutes on it! Maybe when I'm more mature and/or can't read anymore.
